Kimbo Here with a story about how this book affected my own family’s journey.
Several years ago, our church offered a small book club using this book, ReFraming Foster Care. At the time, my husband and I weren’t necessarily thinking about becoming foster parents. We had friends who were, so we thought going through this book would help us better support them!
The discussion from the book was great. It reminded us of gospel truths related to the journey of stepping into hard spaces, in this case, foster care. I remember sharing with another person in the book club that foster care probably wasn’t the journey we felt called to, but we were open to adoption, perhaps.
Though it wasn’t instantaneous, I can point back to the discussion from this book being a small step towards opening our hearts to fostering. It wasn’t a specific moment, but step upon step, God showed us that there were real needs, right in front of us.
We ultimately became licensed foster parents in 2022! We went from wanting to be well-informed friends to now desiring that OUR friends and church members take the time to think through these topics. We are so grateful when they do, because it means we have more people who, in whatever small way, “get it”!
What a gift!
So, I would ask you to consider taking us up on our offer to help you get this book to a small group at YOUR church. Family Hope Coalition will provide all the materials and even help with some hospitality needs. You just come up with the group.
