Coming fresh off of Easter as we enter National Foster Care Month this May, we remember the day before Jesus died, he took the time to serve his disciples by washing their feet. Jesus’ example of humbling himself and taking the role of a servant is what we want to emulate.
In this video, Kondo Simfukwe, a pastor in Indiana, shares with us his heart for his church to be known as a people who look like Jesus and live like him. Discipleship- learning more about Jesus and living on mission are two sides of the same coin. The same Savior who calls us to look like him and live like him is the one who also calls us to care for the orphan and the widow. Taking a posture of being a servant, entering into those hard situations to care drives us to the feet of our Savior. And when we need him more, the more Jesus shows up to show us exactly who he is.
When we leave our safe shores, Jesus goes with us. When we learn more about who Jesus is and why he came, Jesus goes with us. When we welcome a child into our home who has experienced the brokenness of this world, Jesus goes with us.
This National Foster Care Month, we’re asking you and your church to consider how Jesus is calling you to more fully depend on him. Ask yourself if your life pursuits reflects the heart of Jesus in living as a servant and caring for those most vulnerable around you.
If you discover that he is calling you into caring for the orphan and vulnerable, Family Hope wants to support you and provide resources to help. Follow along this month and engage with us as we walk on mission together.
